Week #88 - BOIL YOUR HANDS! 03-30-2020
That's what it feels like at
least! 😂😂😂
But for reals, I just
smack the hot water on when I wash my hands. It's hot, but I know it's doing
something at least.
So currently, it's day
11 of quarantine and it's SO AWESOME! I have probably never had so many lessons
in a week. Literally everyone is home and have nothing to do. So why not talk
with missionaries? We have been setting up lessons with our members and
teaching them about charity found in Moroni 7:40-48. They love it and at the
end of the message, we ask them to pray to know who needs to hear this message
and we set up a time to follow up with them. The members are always checking in
on us, which is super nice. We are well taken care of!

Aside from the
members, we've been calling a ton of the people in our areabook and setting up
lessons with them. We've been seeing a lot of success from that too. We
actually had a sweet miracle! So, we received a referral for a man named Dee.
So we called him to try and set up a phone lesson and he picked up! When we introduced ourselves, he said,
"so when are y'all having your next baptismal service?" We were like,
"huh?" and he said he wanted to be baptized. LIKE TOMORROW. We
explained to him that we would love to help him achieve that but that he would
need to take some lessons, so that he could understand the covenant he was
about to make. He said that was okay, but that he wanted to be baptized as soon
as possible. We set a date for April 18th for the baptism and are planning on
calling him multiple times a week to teach him. So far, he loves what we have
to share. I'm really looking forward to helping him progress! He even told us
that he felt that something was off with his church and that the spirit was
directing him to talk to us and join the church. Ladies and Gentlemen, the
elect come when they come. I'M SO PUMPED!
That happened at the
end of the week. The First part of the week was SO SLOW. But we persevered and
the Lord blessed us. It feels so good to see Heavenly Father's hand in the
work. I'm also happy he trusts us to teach His children here, in Lake
Charles.
We also have morning
devotionals with the whole mission every morning, Tuesday through Saturday.
They are so cool! I feel so motivated when I get to watch those. Basically
President Hewlett and Sister Hewlett answer questions that we have and then
someone in the mission share a 20 min devotional. This week we had a missionary
give a devotional and the Mission Presidency and also President Hewlett's
former Stake President, from Utah. It's neat to learn from other people.

SPIRITUAL THOUGHT!!!!!
So in the book of
Ether, in the Book of Mormon, the middle chapters go very quickly through
conflicts that happen in the land and you can miss small details, if you read
too fast. One of the biggest themes I see in the Book of Ether is that the
shift between the people being wicked or righteous happens so much it's crazy!
But the main reason the people begin to be wicked is because they start
"secret combinations" or secret organizations to do crime and all
manner of evil stuff. Basically, sin usually starts in secret then eventually
grows to something bigger. So this happens and the people suffer in the end for
being wicked. But, then there are times when the people are righteous, and
they're happy. Here's a verse from chapter 10 that highlights it:
28 And never could be a people more blessed than were they, and
more prospered by the hand of the Lord. And they were in a land that was choice
above all lands, for the Lord had spoken it.
That's basically what
happens whenever the people choose to follow God. So we should do the same! A
good way to help you do that is by watching GENERAL CONFERENCE! IT'S THIS
WEEKEND! IT'S GONNA BE SWEET. Here's the link to figure out how to best watch
it: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/church/news/5-ways-you-can-watch-april-2020-general-conference-from-anywhere?lang=eng
I hope y'all have a
great week! This is some wack times but hey, God is still there and is very
aware of all of our situations 😄
Love y'all,
Elder Furphy
