Week #93 - You know how I be feelin' (THIS IS IT! THE SEASON FINALE!!!)

Hey y'all.

 Elder Furphy here.

SO this is it.  Please.  Don't cry.  I am eating my sads away with Uncrustables. They are good. But I know there's better food ahead of me ;).  I want to let y'all know I appreciate you and the support you've given me over the course of the last 21 months. It's been a TRIP. I will have a trip down memory lane, at the end of this email.

Okay!

Dee's Baptism!!! (Bishop Hale, Dee, Me, Elder Nash)
But, Dee got baptized this week!  What a way to end :)  He has been prepared for a year now and has finally found the Church of Jesus Christ.  The service was nice.  10 people including us were there!   It was awesome.  Dee was so happy to be here.  Our Ward Mission Leader gave a talk about baptism and the Gift of the Holy Ghost and actually, in the middle of the talk he asked Dee to share his testimony about the Holy Ghost.  He did!  It was THE purest testimony.  He knows this is the path to go on and he said he has felt guided the entire way.  After he was baptized, he received the Gift of the Holy Ghost.  I asked him how he felt, and he said he felt true joy.  Not just joy, but TRUE joy.  He gets it guys.  He understands what it means to be a disciple of Christ.  He has brought me so much fulfillment as my mission comes to a close :))))))

Brother Mortimer and I (He's the BEST Ward Mission Leader!)

These last 6 weeks have made me appreciate the Lord so much!  He has blessed me beyond all belief.  This is the transfer that I've experienced the MOST success.  We have talked to so many people who were and who weren't interested.  But what was cool about both groups is that they both listened to our message!  There were a few who did hang up right away when we said our name.  But otherwise, people would LISTEN.  I had never really seen that as I walked around the streets of Texas.  Lake Charles, LA has been the best place to end. I have felt so much love here.  I know the Lord is very involved in all we do.

I have had the blessing of personally teaching 6 people who progressed towards baptism.

1. Lil' Sean - Woodville w/ Elders King and Boam
2.Tayfe - Woodville w/ Elder Boam
3. Mark - Oakhurst w/ Elders Peterson, Farley, and Butterfield
4. Sarah - Oakhurst w/ Elders Farley and Butterfield
5. Monique - Oakhurst w/ Elders Farley and Butterfield
6. Dee - Lake Charles w/ Elder Nash
(7. Bobby if you want. I found him and visited him a lot. But I didn't take a huge part in teaching him)

These people have brought me so much joy as I have seen them grow and progress. I have felt the promise in Doctrine and Covenants 18:15-16 come alive in my mission:

15 And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one asoul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!

16 And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the akingdom of my Father, how great will be your bjoy if you should bring many csouls unto me!

Can I just say that being a missionary is THE best experience to benefit you for EVER??? I wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING. I have come closer to my Savior and have really understood what it means to care for those around me.  Am I excited to be back in Arizona in 22 hrs? YES.  But I think I'm going to be leaving a huge part of my heart in Texas and Louisiana.  I know I've been changed.

I appreciate my Mission President, President Hewlett and his wife, Sister Hewlett.  They have been the most charitable people in my life.  They helped me gain such a love for the gospel and know that I can do hard things!  They have shown me how much more happier I can be when I am 100% obedient and it's true!  I've been 100% obedient and I've seen the happiness that comes from it.  They are going to be a part of me forever :)

The Book of Mormon is true!  I can't say it enough!  It will bring peace to your soul as you read it.  That's because you feel the spirit of God as you read and it will bring clarity to your life.  If you've never read it, please do!  If you haven't for a while, please read!  If you are currently reading it, keep going!  Great job!  Follow the promise in Moroni 10:3-5 every time you read.

Well. I want to end with a spiritual thought. (Statement?)

Alma 26: 30:

30 And we have suffered all manner of afflictions, and all this, that perhaps we might be the means of saving some soul; and we supposed that our ajoy would be full if perhaps we could be the means of saving some.

This is how I feel about my mission.  I have done all I could.  I used everything I had in my spiritual/physical arsenal.  I feel fulfilled and ready to move on.  I have helped people and they have helped me. I have helped some come into a covenant with the Lord and have felt pure joy in the process :).  I love my mission.  I would never ask for a different experience during this time in my life.  I know I was called by God to serve in the Texas Houston East Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ.

In the name of Jesus Christ,

AMEN.

I love y'all and will see y'all in AZ soon!

Love,

Elder Nicholas Furphy

NOW...

A trip down memory lane!

I will basically be going through all of my companions :)

So the beginnings:

1. ELDER MORRIS (MTC BOIII)

Elder Morris is a stud. We started this thing together on July 25th, 2018. He was my first friend of my mission! I couldn't have had such a great time at the MTC and in the mission field if he wasn't there. He taught me how to really love the gospel and share it with others in a way that didn't seem fake. I know he knows this is all true and good to do. I really appreciated being able to serve around him, while I was in Pasadena. He has done so much good here in Texas!!! I love ya man!

2. ELDER WOOD

(Humble, TX)
You really don't get a better trainer than Elder Wood in the mission field. I was so nervous coming out in the HUMID, HOT, and YUCKY weather of the Texas summer heat! But, he showed me what it really meant to love the work, no matter the conditions!  He was dedicated and knew what to say!  I could tell that he was in tune with the spirit, cuz sometimes I had no clue why we were biking down a random road. But he did. He helped me get a great start to my mission.

3. Elder Osborne

(Humble, TX & Lakeshore)
Elder Osborne. He was so funny!  He was my 2nd trainer and a great friend.  He is actually Elder Wood's best friend from back home, so that was pretty funny. He showed me how to enjoy the work, as well. He was diligent in all he did and helped me understand that you don't have to be a robot missionary to find success. He knew how to talk to people and get stuff done. I am grateful for his example.

4. Elder Loynd

(Buna)
OOOO BABY! I love Elder Loynd. He is such a caring guy! He knew how to let people know they are loved and showed a genuine interest in people.  He wasn't hungry to get numbers. He wanted people to really understand the gospel.  He taught me how to love people, no matter how they treat you.

5. & 6. Elders Hazelton and Horikami

(Buna)
Man oh man, this was a fun time. Elder Hazelton and I were a great duo!  We were both pretty new missionaries when we got put together and were both pumped to go do something great!  We had sweet success in finding people and in growing spiritually!  We even had the pleasure of getting Elder Horikami near the end of our second transfer together!  Elder Horikami was so nice.  He was so caring and was willing to help with anything.  Our trio was LIT. We all together helped Brother Johnson come back to church. (with the help of the Lord in that like 100%) Buna is AWESOME.

7. Elder King

(Woodville)
Best prediction of 2019.  Elder King and I had a blast.  Woodville is LIT.  We had so much fun talking to people and getting so much service in hahahahaha. Nothing like helping Brother Degarmo. Also, sorry if I made too much fun of your buzz cut. It was LIT. He showed me how to really love the scriptures and apply them. It was sweet.
 Lamar was LIT

8. Elder Boam (mi hijo 💟)

(Woodville)
Ah, Mi hijo. You my son, brought me some joy hahahahaha.  Elder Boam is one of the hardest working missionaries I know.  He will literally put ANYONE in front of his needs (RIP) and loves to serve the Lord.  He came out ready to go and is still going strong.  Have a blast in Spring ZL2!!!!  It was so cool to be able to serve around him, in Pasadena again!  He has grown so much over his mission and has made me so proud.  I can't wait to see what he will accomplish over the next 11 months!  Haha remember when we gave Elmer a blessing in a cow pasture?
Best exchange of my life hahahaha (remember who took that picture??? 😏)

9. Elder Peterson

(Oakhurst)
Elder Peterson you wild dog.  He is so cool.  Literally one of the best.  He helped me understand what it meant to lead people effectively and lovingly.  Oakhurst was a new playing field.  THE PACIFICAAAAA ❤❤❤.  He and I taught a lot of cool people and we had fun doing it.  He knew how to teach effectively and we killed it while we were together for 6 weeks (so short!)

10. Elder Farley (Obeldober Fobarlobey)

(Oakhurst)
You my friend taught me SO MUCH.  You are so gospel minded!  He knew how to work with the spirit and show me how to bind the Lord.  He showed me the path to miracles and we sure saw a lot of them.  He knew how to REALLY help people!  He also knew how to meet people's needs!  He also was a way good hype-man.  Zone shirts were very cool.  I learned so much from him and he's gonna kill it in SPRING!

 11. Elder Butterfield (Triple T)

Me oh my. You knew how to JAM!  I have learned how to make sick beats cuz of you dood.  We also were able to see the final events of the baptisms of Sarah, Monique, and Mark!  We also wrestled over a pistol (rip) and taught with POWER!  He knew how to make anyone laugh and be a real friend.  I'm super gonna miss ya man.  Spending Thanksgiving (SO MUCH FOOD) and Christmas with you was TURNT.  Thanks for being so sweet.

12. Elder Harward

My. Man. He is so cool!  He was so lax, it wasn't funny, but actually was.  He knew how to teach and knew how to share a laugh.  He is suuuuuper good at soccer and does NOT like to lose haha!  He is a diligent worker and we made sure the whole zone knew we cared about each of them as individuals :).  I know we made an impact on a lot of people.  He is a super charitable person.  I love that guy.

13. Elder Rasmussen (Mi hijo dos😀)

YEAH BOI. HAHAHAHHAAHA man I had a blast with you man.  Elder Rasmussen really showed genuine interest for those around him and wanted to know what he could do to help them out.  He was always asking what he could do to improve and that showed me that the spirit was guiding him and he was following.  It was cool to still be in the same district as him and hear about the things he was doing.  I really hope the best for him as he serves the rest of his mission! It FLIES bb.
 CERTIFICATION BOIIIIII

14. Elder Nash (BD) ( ;) )

My killer. You killed me as a missionary haha.  Elder Nash is a Canadian!  He is also very nice and knows how to really make me laugh with the same 5 jokes. We made so many memories together.  But, I think the coolest was being able to find success during our 6 weeks locked inside our apartment (not literally locked). We were able to help someone get baptized and progress in the gospel. We literally only met Dee in person twice. The rest was all over the phone. No video calls. The Lord blessed this companionship with success when no one thought success could be found. Corona Days were LIT. Elder Nash knew how to take care of this dying soul.
 hahahahahaaha

That's all folks! My mission in a nut-shell. It was ALL worth it. NO REGRETS. Corona made me appreciate the last 21 months more, I think, than if I had served 24 months. (idk, but that's how I feel.)

I love you all and this Church is true. The Book of Mormon is true. Joseph Smith is a prophet. Russel M. Nelson is our prophet today. The spirit will only guide you to do good. :) Keep on the path.

It's been real.

Elder Furphy signing off 😎👍 *walkie talkie clicks*
