Week #34 - Elder King won't talk to me. :'(
Because he has laryngitis and it literally wrecks his throat to talk, so that's a fun ride for us right now. We are actually in Vidor right now, waiting for the doc to come check on him. But yeah, that's a part of what happened this week.
BUT, all I have to say is that Woodville is kinda really sweet. It helps already that I know Elder King, so we don't even have any ice to break and we have been jiving like jiggly jello. He has such a strong desire to work, which is sweeeeeeeeet!
BUT, this week we had a really cool contact. Whilst we were walking down a road of rejection, I saw this man smoking, so I was like, "hey can we talk to you for like 10 minutes?" and he was like "nah" and then started to talk to his friend across the street. Well, that friend came across the street and started talking with him. I didn't want to get excluded from this conversation, so I just butted right in and we talked about smoking steaks. Eventually, the original guy smoking a cigarette left and it was us and the guy smoking steaks (which is way betterπ€). We got talking about church and stuff and there were about 3 times where he tried to end the conversation, but then we would keep talking and he answered. Then, he would randomly look at us for like 15 seconds, and then say, "now, this is gonna be a weird question" and then he would ask us questions about the Spirit, or heaven, or hell. It was way cool! He said he felt cold in churches and I asked him if that was because there was a lack of the Spirit. He didn't know. Then, he asked about if he was going to heaven, or hell, and we proceeded to talk to him about the Plan of Salvation and the three kingdoms of glory π. But, we told him that he has the potential to obtain the highest kingdom of glory, but that it was his choice and that we can only be guides as he walks down this path of Mortality. The contact ended after that. It was like 25 minutes long, but it was super good. Sure, he didn't invite us back, but I know a seed was planted and that he'll be back.
Besides that, we also built a dock this week which was amazing. The legends of Woodville were there, Jimbo, Bro. Durr and Noah. It took a bit, but we got it screwed down and you can walk on it now. There was a part when Jimbo was on a ladder, in the mud, and it slipped out from under him, so I ran and caught him. But Jimbo was hanging on to the dock for dear life, just long enough for me to get under him.
Woodville has a game night, every Saturday, and so we helped set that up and 2 people that we are teaching showed up! Way cool. Elder King and I got in a heated game of Risk, with Noah. It was LEGIT, cuz I won, lol. (pic below). I also played some pickleball with a recent convert, Uele. He's a cool Samoan.
That was pretty much what our week was though.
I have been reading in Alma lately and chapter 36 is super awesome because Alma tells us about his personal road of conversion and repentance:
12 But I was racked with eternal torment, for my soul was harrowed up to the greatest degree and racked with all my sins.
13 Yea, I did remember all my sins and iniquities, for which I was tormented with the pains of hell; yea, I saw that I had rebelled against my God, and that I had not kept his holy commandments.
14 Yea, and I had murdered many of his children, or rather led them away unto destruction; yea, and in fine so great had been my iniquities, that the very thought of coming into the presence of my God did rack my soul with inexpressible horror.
15 Oh, thought I, that I could be banished and become extinct both soul and body, that I might not be brought to stand in the presence of my God, to be judged of my deeds.
16 And now, for three days and for three nights was I racked, even with the pains of a damned soul.
17 And it came to pass that as I was thus racked with torment, while I was harrowed up by the memory of my many sins, behold, I remembered also to have heard my father prophesy unto the people concerning the coming of one Jesus Christ, a Son of God, to atone for the sins of the world.
18 Now, as my mind caught hold upon this thought, I cried within my heart: O Jesus, thou Son of God, have mercy on me, who am in the gall of bitterness, and am encircled about by the everlasting chains of death.
19 And now, behold, when I thought this, I could remember my pains no more; yea, I was harrowed up by the memory of my sins no more.
20 And oh, what joy, and what marvelous light I did behold; yea, my soul was filled with joy as exceeding as was my pain!
21 Yea, I say unto you, my son, that there could be nothing so exquisite and so bitter as were my pains. Yea, and again I say unto you, my son, that on the other hand, there can be nothing so exquisite and sweet as was my joy.
So a little background. Alma used to be a super bad dude and would go around trying to destroy the church. Then, one day an angel came and gave him the business about how bad he was and struck him dumb. And these verses that I just listed tell of his personal experience during his time of being dumb.
I really like it because it starts with him remembering everything wrong he had done, so he acknowledged his sins. Then he was overcome with guilt that was driving him insane. He suffered for 3 days and nights. But the key part in this is that he remembered the teachings of his father about Jesus Christ and that right when he called on Jesus to save him, his guilt was instantly taken from him. It didn't take a few minutes, it was instant. Then, instead of feeling guilty, he was overcome with such great joy.
Now who wouldn't want joy? Why live in sin? Being willing to change is so important as we continually strive to be like Jesus Christ. If you are living in sin and are feeling guilty, I encourage you to seek repentance and to change your ways and receive the joy that Alma received.
It's a great process and I know it can bless your life.
BUT yeah, that's all for now folks! I am gonna have another great week, this week, with Elder King and we will see miracles!
Until next time bb,
