Week #33 - It's almost like Buna, except there's a Walmart!
Yes baby. I am in not Buna. But where am I? Stay tuned to find out ;)
SO! This last week was so amazing! It all built up to the Redbud Festival, in Buna.
To begin, I called home last week and I asked my father if I could have some extra money for Redbud and he was like, "nah". However, they asked if we were running a booth, at the festival, and I said no. So they told me that if I were to go and buy a booth, they would give me the money to do so. I accepted the terms and we started to plan.
That night, at dinner, at the McCann's, I told them what we were going to be doing and they became very excited about it. They then asked us if they could do anything and we said they could send out a facebook post on the Relief Society page to ask the sisters to bake over 100 cookies for us to give away, at the festival. Then, we asked Brother McCann if he would help us with making the posters and he said he would 👍. So I call that a good win.
THEN, the next night at dinner, we were at the family history consultant's house and we started talking about the booth and they said they would help as best as they could with it. So the next day, we met them at the church and made fliers to pass out and became SUPER prepared, for Saturday.
Then, on Friday, we went to the McCann's and picked everything up. Then, we went to the start of Redbud and were able to see David, at Redbud, which was awesome. We even had CRAWFISH and I have never had crawfish before and it was very good.
On Saturday, we set up out booth at 6:45am and had cookies ready for people and us to eat. The parade for Redbud started at 10am and so Elders Horikami, Hazelton and I went over and watched the Disney themed floats come down the road. It was super cool to see a bunch of the people of Buna there. After that, we went to our booth and talked to 165 people about what family history is and what it means to be doing it. Only about 10 or 15 people were super interested and I hope so many people go to the family history class, on Wednesday.
But yeah, after we took down the booth we walked around and literally people walked up to us and gave us money to buy food and so we ended up with $150 😉. That was sweet. But yeah, we eventually made it over to the rides and got talkin' with the carnival owner and he said that his mom is a member and that he loves the missionaries. So, we had a lesson about what it means to make covenants with God, at baptism, and he really liked it. Then, he said that we could get food and drinks on the house and he gave us bracelets to get on all the rides for free and it was an awesome way to end the night.
On Sunday, we sent Elder Horikami home 😭😭😭. But, we had more crawfish, at Bishop's house, that night and they were in enchilada form ;)))))))))). Those wrecked me later lol.
Yesterday I said "see ya later" to a bunch of people in the Ward, cuz I was being transferred. So yeah that was kinda sad, but I'll be back one day.
So, I got transferred to Woodville. Woodville is one hour up the road from Buna so I only went a little ways away. Woodville is AWESOME. There is a Walmart here and I LOVE it.
But yeah, my new companion is Elder King and I never thought I could be companions with him and this is pretty much a dream come true bb.
I am really excited to be here and I will work hard and take sweet pics for y'all.
Love,
Elder Furphy
