Week #25 - Come Follow Me... For some π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π studies bb
Okay people, this week was pretty cool. A big portion was because of ZONE Conference, buuuut besides that, here we go bb!
So, there was quite a bit of service this week. First off, we went to Barbara's house and raked like a TON of leaves and also had to shovel some pig poop. So that was fun. Our clothes were mucho stinky. But, it was fun. The other service we did was help our Elder's Quorum President, Brother Allen, put up chicken wire around his chicken coop. That was pretty fun. I am learning new skills everyday and that day was learning the art of chicken fencing, lol. I now know all the pig's names at Barbara's house, so that's fun. There's Pretty Boy, Reeba, Mabalene, Runt, Rusty (RIP), and the boys.
Another thing that happened was ZONE CONFERENCE. That was fantastic mainly cuz I got to sit next to my boi Elder Ure. But, the even better part was being able to give Elder Morris a BIG ol hug and see how he was doingπ. Oh, and I got to see Elder King. That guy is super cool. OOO I got to see Elder Douglass. Now he's the REAL hero of the mission. Anywho, the main theme that I got from Zone Conference was HOPE. We must have the hope that we will have success. I really liked that. It helped me see our purpose as missionaries, in a different light.
Oh, and I went on exchanges with Elder Baumann, on Friday, in Silsbee and we had a grand old time. I was able to meet some really cool people and 2 of them said they were sorry for us because we believed in the Book of Mormon. And so, I just told them to read and pray about it, but that they first needed to have the desire to learn and not be in the mindset that you're just going to say it's wrong, no matter what. But they didn't listen, so it's whatever now, I guess.
HEY. Come Follow Me had taught me how to freaking tear apart the scriptures and find the super secret hidden treasures found in between the lines of each verse I read. HOLY COWππππ. So one example of this happening was when I was reading in the Book of Mormon. It's in Alma 16:5-8 and a quick backstory is the people of Ammoniah get destroyed by the Lamanites and some are captured and Zoram, a captain, wants to go save them:
5 Therefore, he that had been appointed chief captain over the armies of the Nephites, (and his name was Zoram, and he had two sons, Lehi and Aha)—now Zoram and his two sons, knowing that Alma was high priest over the church, and having heard that he had the spirit of prophecy, therefore they went unto him and desired of him to know whither the Lord would that they should go into the wilderness in search of their brethren, who had been taken captive by the Lamanites.
6 And it came to pass that Alma inquired of the Lord concerning the matter. And Alma returned and said unto them: Behold, the Lamanites will cross the river Sidon in the south wilderness, away up beyond the borders of the land of Manti. And behold there shall ye meet them, on the east of the river Sidon, and there the Lord will deliver unto thee thy brethren who have been taken captive by the Lamanites.
7 And it came to pass that Zoram and his sons crossed over the river Sidon, with their armies, and marched away beyond the borders of Manti into the south wilderness, which was on the east side of the river Sidon.
8 And they came upon the armies of the Lamanites, and the Lamanites were scattered and driven into the wilderness; and they took their brethren who had been taken captive by the Lamanites, and there was not one soul of them had been lost that were taken captive. And they were brought by their brethren to possess their own lands.
So if you were to just read this, you might think, "Wow, what a cool war story", but I saw it differently. I took each verse and looked at the message that was trying to be conveyed, in each verse. I found a chain of 4 messages. So let's look at each verse now.
1. In verse 5, "they went unto him and desired of him to know whither the Lord would that they should go". They had the desire to learn. They had faith that they could get an answer from God through the prophet, Alma.
2. In verse 6, Alma receives revelation from the Lord concerning the question.
3. In verse 7, Zoram follows the Lord's instructions exactly. He acted in Faith because he knew that the Lord would never lead them astray.
4. In verse 8, they find the Lamanites, beat them in battle, and rescues the prisoners and no one is hurt. They were blessed for acting in faith and received the promised blessings.
So the big four points are...
1. Ask in faith
2. Receive revelation
3. Act in Faith on the revelation
4. Receive the promised blessings
We can use these 4 steps as we study the scriptures. We can have a question that we have in mind, as we study, and pray to receive an answer. Then as you have the true desire to learn as you study, you WILL receive revelation. Next, act on the revelation you receive, that shows the Lord you are willing to follow what he gives you. Cuz some people will receive revelation and not do anything with it. That's not why the Lord gives you revelation. He wants you to ACT on what you have learned. Then finally, after you act in Faith, the Lord will bless you for your faithfulness.
ISN'T THAT SO COOL????
I have been absolutely loving Come Follow Me because it just has helped me get so much more out of the scriptures. I challenge all of you to read in between the lines and find the hidden messages that you need to hear. The Lord will bless you when you show the true desire to learn.
BUT yeah, that all folks! I will try and have a fantastic week and find some zany things to take picture of.
