Week #9 - Descansar En Paz Mi Padre (Rest In Peace, My Father)
HELLO it is I, Elder Furphy.
I hope all is well at wherever home is for y'all. Life has been pretty good out here in the field, but we got hit with some big news. That news I will tell in a bit. BUT here is my week.
SO, on TUESDAY we talked with a guy named Booney. He owns a guitar shop here in Humble. He thinks that the universe was formed by a dude playing a guitar and the right chords brought everything together. Lol that was really funny.
THEN, on WEDNESDAY, we went to HAAM and made some CNPs. When we were at lunch, Curtis called us and said that the sisters put a bunch of sticky notes on his door saying how much he meant to them and that made him feel a lot better. So, thanks sister Robinson and Watt!
Brother Flores came in clutch (in the nic of time), with a dinner for us and he made me a greenie dinner which consisted of broccoli, green mashed potatoes, stuffed green peppers, and chocolate chip mint ice-creamππ. That was super nice of him to do that. It made my day.
THEN, on THURSDAY, we went to HAAM again and they had pizza there this time for us, so that was flippin' sweetπππ. During "hour of power", we met a lot of nice people who weren't interested but one of them was. His name is Tony and he said we could come back the next day.
THEN, on FRIDAY, we had a really cool district council and the APs (Assistants to the President) were there too. We basically had a discussion of what we have studied in the Book of Mormon and how we are applying what we learned in our lives now to bring ourselves closer to God. (we also had hot cocoa ππ) The APs kinda hinted to Elder Wood, that he was going ZL (Zone Leader) next transfer, but we chose to ignore that, at the time.
We then went and talked to Tony and he said that he was a Jehovah's Witness, but we totally taught him the first lesson and he said we could come back. I don't know if he really wants to learn, but we'll keep trying! Then Elder Wood took me on a swamp adventure, so that was cool. I also finally met a person we're teaching named Sean. He's pretty cool and wants to meet again soon.
THEN, the day of reckoning came. So, on SATURDAY, we went to Foxwood, to meet with some people for lessons, but no one was home. So Elder Wood and I raced some leaf boats, in the rain. Lol. Then, we had the opportunity later to give a blessing to a member in the ward, so that was really cool.
Also, we were sitting in the rain and a random lady pulled up and just gave us $40 for food. Bless her soul!!!!!πππ.
Then, the thing we were dreading came. TRANSFER CALLS. Yeah, so uh, Elder Wood is totally getting pulled out of Humble. He is going ZL! I am super sad that I won't have the same trainer throughout my whole training, but, I am super proud to have been able to be half trained by Elder Wood, my "father". He is such a great missionary and I couldn't have asked for a better companion to start off with in the fieldππ.
I am staying here, in Humble, to finish my training and my new companion/trainer is Elder Osborne. I went on an exchange with him a couple of weeks ago. He is best friends with Elder Wood and they are similar, so I think we'll get along juuuuust fine π.
THEN, on SUNDAY, Curtis took us to church, which was awesome. Sacrament meeting was really cool because it was a hymn focused sacrament. There were 5 speakers and each one gave a short talk on their favorite hymn and then after each talk the congregation sang that hymn. So it was really cool to learn about the hymn and then sing it. It was a lot of singing. Bro. Flores fed us dinner, which was dope. Curtis took us to the mission president's fireside. I got to meet up with Elder Ewell and he is doin good π. I also got to say goodbye to my grandpa, Elder Jones. He is going home today.
THEN, on MONDAY, Elder Wood packed basically all day. Our district met up to write in each other's transfer journals which was really cool. Nothing much really happened other than that though.
So yeah, it was a really cool week, but also a sad one, cuz I am loosing my father.
A scripture I found very cool this week was in Mosiah 4:26 & 27 which reads:
"26 And now, for the sake of these things which I have spoken unto you—that is, for the sake of retaining a remission of your sins from day to day, that ye may walk guiltless before God—I would that ye should impart of your substance to the poor, every man according to that which he hath, such as feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and administering to their relief, both spiritually and temporally, according to their wants.
27 And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order."
I like how it gives us guidance to live by and to be loving towards other always. I also really like the part that says if we are diligent we might win the prize. It's just nice that we all have a goal to reach in this life and that is salvation! SO, GO FOR IT!
I truly am happy to be out here, in the field, and finding people to share this message with :)
Oh, also I think I might be serving in the Eagle Springs Ward soon, cuz I think the stake is shifting boundaries soon. Just an FYI.
Anywho, I hope all of y'all have a fantastic week and that you'll be able to see the blessings in your lives whether they be big or smallππ.
Hasta prΓ³xima vez,
Elder Furphy ✌️π

3 generations of missionaries:
Elder Jones trained Elder Wood. Elder Wood half trained me.
